Our 2008 Case-Breaker of the Year award has been presented to Investigator Brian Nichols for his work in a recent Corporate Theft case. During the final hours of a 13 hour surveillance shift and in a very vulnerable position relative to suspects who suddenly became aware of his presence, Brian demonstrated extraordinary perseverance in establishing communication with the Houston Police Department, coordinating a unit response and sustaining his surveillance position for a period of almost 2 hours until a unit arrived on the scene. The concluding circumstances created a threatening and potentially harmful situation for Brian, yet his persistence facilitated recovery of virtually all of the product previously stolen, which had a retail value in excess of $150,000.00 and criminal prosecution of one of the suspects on felony charges.
A special thanks to H.P.D. Lieutenant Greg Huntsman, Sgt. James Haney and Detective Arturo Bernal for their prompt, professional assistance in this matter.
