Corporate or Competitive Intelligence is defined as the act of identifying, gathering, analyzing, and reporting intelligence in connection with products, customers, competitors, and other processes within a particular entity and/or industry.  Information typically gleaned through this area of investigation is enables organizational shareholders and executive level managers to leverage their strategic decision making.  Whereas Corporate Intelligence is certainly a legal business practice, industrial espionage is illegal and a prosecutable offense.
